How to watch IPTV on an Android phone in Canada
Install a player, paste in your details, done. About eight minutes on Android.
What you need
Your Android device, the activation email containing your Xtream Codes username, password and server URL, and a few minutes. Nothing else — no box, no cable, no installer.
Step by step
- Install a player
Open the Google Play Store and install IPTV Smarters Pro, XCIPTV or TiviMate. All three are free to start.
- Choose Xtream Codes API
Not M3U. The Xtream Codes option pulls in the programme guide as well as the channel list.
- Enter your details
Username, password and server URL exactly as they appear in your activation email, including the port number.
- Set the quality
On mobile data choose HD rather than 4K. On a phone screen you will not see the difference, and the data saving is large.
- Cast to a TV if you want
Most Android players support Chromecast, so the phone can send the picture to a television without any extra subscription.
Which app to use on Android
IPTV Smarters Pro is the one we recommend on Android, and it is available from the Google Play Store. Our app comparison covers the alternatives if you would rather use something else — the subscription works with all of them at the same time.
Watching on mobile data
| Quality | Per hour | On a 10 GB plan |
|---|---|---|
| HD 720p | ~3.6 GB | About 2.8 hours |
| Full HD 1080p | ~5.4 GB | About 1.9 hours |
| 4K | ~11 GB | Under an hour |
Set the app to HD when you are away from Wi-Fi. On a phone screen the difference is invisible and the data saving is substantial.
Android phones vary enormously. If a player crashes on your handset, try a different one before assuming the service is at fault — it is almost always the app, not the stream.
