IPTV installation guide

Pick your device and follow the steps. Every guide takes about ten minutes, and if you get stuck at any point our support team does this every single day.

Before you start

How to get IPTV working, whatever device you own

The same three things for every device, so get these ready first and the rest is quick. Whether you are setting up IPTV on a Firestick, a Smart TV or an Android box, the process below is identical — only the app store changes.

  1. Your activation email

It contains your username, password and server URL. You will also see an M3U link. Use the Xtream Codes details if your app offers them — you get a proper TV guide that way.

  2. Your device, connected to the internet

Wired with an Ethernet cable if at all possible. This is the single biggest thing you can do for a steady picture.

  3. A player app

TiviMate or IPTV Smarters on Android and Fire TV, GSE on iPhone and iPad. See our app comparison if you are not sure.

Setup guides for every device

These are the devices Canadian customers use most. The process is very similar on all of them — install a player, paste in your details, done.

IPTV on Firestick — the quickest setup in Canada

The Fire Stick is the most common device we set up in Canada, and the fastest to get running. If you are looking for the best Firestick IPTV setup, this is it: ten minutes, start to finish.

  1. Allow unknown sources

Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → turn on Apps from Unknown Sources. If you cannot see Developer options, go to Settings → My Fire TV → About and click the device name seven times.

  2. Install Downloader

Search the Fire TV store for Downloader (the orange icon) and install it.

  3. Install your player

Open Downloader and enter the address for TiviMate or IPTV Smarters. Install it, then delete the installer file to save space.

  4. Add your playlist

Open the player, choose Xtream Codes API, and enter your username, password and server URL exactly as they appear in your email, including the port number.

  5. Tune it

Turn on hardware decoding, raise the buffer, and add your channels to favourites.

Samsung, LG and Hisense Smart TVs

No extra box needed on most models from 2018 onwards.

  1. Open your TV's app store

Samsung Apps on Tizen, LG Content Store on webOS, or the VIDAA store on Hisense.

  2. Install an IPTV player

Search for IPTV Smarters or Smart IPTV. Install whichever is available on your model.

  3. Enter your details

Choose Xtream Codes and type in your username, password and server URL. A TV remote makes this slow — take your time and check for typos.

  4. Set the picture

If your TV is 4K, leave quality on automatic. If you see stutter, set Full HD instead.

Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

  1. Install GSE Smart IPTV

From the App Store. TiviMate is not available on Apple devices, so GSE is the practical choice.

  2. Add an Xtream Codes playlist

Open GSE, go to Xtream Codes, and add your username, password and server URL.

  3. Turn on the EPG

So you get the full programme guide rather than a bare channel list.

Android box, NVIDIA Shield and Android TV

  1. Install TiviMate

Straight from the Google Play Store — no sideloading needed on Android TV.

  2. Add your playlist

Choose Xtream Codes and enter your details.

  3. Set the buffer and decoder

Settings → Playback → raise the buffer, and enable hardware decoding.

Roku and Chromecast

Roku does not allow IPTV player apps directly on most Canadian models, so the usual approach is to cast from your phone or use a Roku-compatible player where available. Chromecast with Google TV runs Android apps, so install TiviMate or IPTV Smarters exactly as you would on an Android box. If you are unsure which applies to your model, ask us and we will tell you honestly.

If something goes wrong

Quick fixes that solve most problems

Work down this list in order — it is the same one our support team uses.

  1. Picture freezes or stutters

Wire the box with Ethernet, switch to 5 GHz Wi-Fi, raise the buffer, or drop 4K to Full HD. Full detail in how to fix IPTV buffering.

  2. "Invalid credentials" when logging in

Almost always a typo, or the port number missing from the server URL. Copy and paste rather than typing on a TV remote.

  3. No TV guide showing

You have probably added the M3U link instead of the Xtream Codes API. Remove the playlist and add it again using Xtream Codes.

  4. One channel is down, the rest are fine

That is a single stream, not your connection. Tell us which channel and we will move you to a different source.

Still stuck? Message live support — tell us your device and what you see on screen and we will sort it.
