Hockey is the reason a lot of Canadians look into IPTV in the first place, and it is also the hardest thing for an IPTV service to get right. Everyone tunes in at the same moment, so a weak provider falls apart at exactly 7pm on a Saturday.
Which channels carry NHL games in Canada
If you want to follow the league properly, these are the ones that matter:
- Sportsnet (Ontario, East, West, Pacific, ONE, 360) — the bulk of national coverage, including Hockey Night in Canada.
- TSN 1 to 5 — regional coverage for the Leafs, Sens, Jets and Habs depending on which regional feed you are on.
- CBC — simulcasts Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays.
- RDS and TVA Sports — French-language coverage, essential if you follow the Canadiens.
- NHL Network — out-of-market games, highlights and analysis.

Why TSN and Sportsnet have regional feeds
This confuses a lot of people. TSN 1 through 5 are not five different channels showing different sports — they are regional feeds. Depending on where you live, your local team's game is on a different number. On IPTV you get all of them, so you can simply flick between TSN 1 to 5 and find the game rather than being locked to your postal code.
Set up before puck drop, not during
Three things worth doing the afternoon before a big game:
- Build a hockey favourites list. Put TSN 1–5, all the Sportsnet feeds, CBC, RDS and TVA Sports in one folder. When the game starts you are two clicks away, not scrolling.
- Wire the box. Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. This is the single biggest thing you can do to stop a freeze in the third period.
- Raise the buffer in your player settings. A slightly bigger buffer rides over small network hiccups that would otherwise show as a stutter.
If the stream freezes mid-game
Do not restart the whole box — you will miss more of the game. Instead:
- Switch to a different feed of the same game (for example Sportsnet ONE instead of Sportsnet Ontario). Different feed, different server path.
- If that fails, message support while it is happening. We can move your line to another server node in under a minute, and knowing it is happening live helps us find the cause.
Where to watch the Leafs game specifically
Leafs coverage splits between Sportsnet Ontario for most of the season and TSN 4 for the regional slate, with CBC carrying Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays. If you cannot find a Leafs game, it is almost always on a Sportsnet feed you are not currently looking at — check ONE and 360 before assuming it is missing.
How to watch the NFL in Canada
NFL coverage in Canada runs across TSN and CTV, with RDS in French and NFL Network carrying out-of-market games and analysis. All of those are in the lineup, so a Canadian NFL stream works exactly the way a hockey one does: find the channel in the guide, or build a Sunday favourites list before kickoff.
Where to watch NFL games in Canada is simpler than hockey, because the channels we carry have no regional feed to work out. The practical advice is the same for every live sport — wire the box, raise the buffer, and set it up the day before rather than at 1pm on a Sunday.
